A Modern-Day Burned CD

Can I get a show of hands for those who lived and died by their burned CD collection?🙋🏼‍♀️💿

Long live the car visor CD display holder. Not all Y2K trends have stood the test of time, so praise for music innovation like Spotify that's given us the ability to create and share playlists with a few simple clicks.

Since I pretty much exclusively listen to Moana and Elmo on repeat (my dreams of dancing and signing with Quinn to musical greats like The Chicks, Fleetwood Mac and Lady Gaga are currently on the back burner as I reside in Toddlerland), any moment I can grab for music that speaks to me is gold. So I've put together a 30-minute playlist for the heart and soul and all the feelings along the way.

I am ALWAYS here for music discovery so please don't hesitate to send me artists, albums, collaborations, or other playlists that are on repeat for you.

I hope this playlist gives you a moment to listen to something that evokes feeling and connection.

I love learning the stories behind songs and music, so here's a little bit from me about each song on this playlist.

Kyshona Armstrong - Talk about a VOICE that speaks truth and sounds like the heavens. Kyshona is otherworldly. She recently did an interview on my friend's Be With Your Body podcast and shares her expertise on Music Therapy as well as a special performance at the end.

Maggie Rogers - This was the last concert I attended before the world and live music changed forever. I was pregnant, swaying my body, and loving every second. And then this song came out and I've forever associated it with Quinn. It never gets old and I love to pretend I'm as cool as Maggie when I sing it off-key and out of tune.

Mickey Guyton - It's about time this Black female country artist gets her moment in the spotlight. Her voice is incredible, all that she stands for is powerful, and her anthemic Remember Her Name chokes me up and simultaneously sets my soul on fire. Q loves this one and says "Mickey's song" every time we are in the car.

Shawn Mendes - A sexy 20-something who's got rhythm and groove simply makes my nostalgic heart happy.

Glass Animals - I love television and movies for lots of reasons, mainly because I believe a good soundtrack can change your life. Never Have I Ever is allllll the things I love about a show (teen dramedy, female perspective, diverse lived-experiences, on-point pop culture references, narrated by John McEnroe, etc.). This song is the final track of the season 2 finale, set at prom, during a makeout scene.. need I say more?! #teenagedreams

Rihanna - It's Bad Gal RiRi, its full-on pop, there are beat drops AND the lyrics of the song have given me my current mantra: How can I find love in this hopeless place?

Novo Armor - Truthfully I have no idea where I heard this song. I'm THAT person who Shazam's wherever and whenever and this is the most recent track on my Liked Songs list. It's vibey and lovely.

Tish Melton - As you learned last month I'm in Glennon Doyle's Pod Squad. Her 15-year old daughter wrote the theme song to the show and Brandi Carlile sings backup. It's a beautiful reminder that music speaks a lot of the words I don't know how to say and gives me a nudge of hope when everything feels too damn hard.

Joy Oladokun - Spotify graciously served me this Nashville-based artist and I haven't been able to stop listening since. They create their music right in Nashville and make folk-pop songs all about "life as I learn to live it". #hereforit
